Physical Effects of Domestic Violence on Children

Children who witness domestic violence are likely to experience a great deal of internal stress and are typically not comfortable telling adults about it. Consequently, this stress may reveal itself through a variety of different forms:

 

Physical Symptoms of Stress:

  • bed-wetting
  • insomnia
  • asthma
  • headaches
  • abdominal complaints / peptic ulcers
  • self-abusive behaviours
  • overeating or not eating at all
